Suitor - 11" x 14" - Acrylic, watercolor pencil, mixed media and gesso on Masonite - $300
This was a fun one to paint. I don’t even know what this style is. I just started painting shapes, figuring this would be a pure abstraction. However, when our little guy showed up, I gave him a heart and a ring in his hand and, viola, came up with “Suitor.”

Abstract #21 With Paper - 14" x 11" - Acrylic, watercolor pencil, mixed media and gesso on Masonite - $300
PAINTINGS COMPLETED TODAY: 7
PAINTINGS COMPLETED TO DATE: 84
Do I like doing abstract paintings more? Not really, but they are quick and easy. they take about an hour or two each in the 11 x 14 size. they are fun, and something different from the landscapes. But the landscapes are an abstraction of sorts too.
These two, I included pages from a book. It adds visual interest and fills space. for Abstract #21, I didn’t like it just painted, so I tried a bunch of things, such as introducing drips on purpose. That didn’t work.
I painted over the drips and it just looked ugly. Then I added the paper over a few sections and I kind of like the results.

Abstract #22 "D" repetition - 14" x 11" - Acrylic, watercolor pencil, mixed media and gesso on Masonite - $300
For Abstract #22, I used an “Expressive Drawing” exercise and used one motif, in this case, the letter “D” cut out of paper. I glued the “D”s on the page and then painted around and over them.

Teacups #3 - 14" x 11" - Acrylic, watercolor pencil and gesso on Masonite - $300
I made another attempt at doing a teacup painting. I really liked the ones I did when I was in school, but I can’t seem to get the hang of it again. Here was my third attempt.
Here is a successful teacup painting I did a few years ago.

Seashells - 14" x 11" - Acrylic, watercolor pencil and gesso on Masonite - $300
There is an exercise in the Expressive Drawing book that says to use a single mo0tif and copy it several times in a composition. I used two different shells to do this painting and just used different angles of each to create the composition.

This is the last week of the 100 paintings challenge. I can’t believe it has come so soon. I always wonder at that. Looking forward, time seems to stretch on forever. However, when we look back over the past, it seems to have passed in the blink of an eye.
Looking back over this challenge, I have really appreciated the time it has given me to focus on painting. I appreciate my family that has put up with me while I become an artist again.
Will I continue to paint? I think so.
Will I do it like I have these past 17 weeks? Probably not. A lot of things have had to be put on the back burner. I have a lot of projects (mine and those of clients) that I really need to get to work on.
This has been a really fun experience. Thanks for following along!

Abstract #18 Big - 20" x 16" - Acrylic, watercolor pencil, permanent marker and gesso on Masonite - $200
I don’t know either. But I don’t have time so I have to count everything I do.
This one is weird. I painted it then went over it with a Sharpie pen. I have always wanted to do that, so why not do it one one that stinks anyway. If you like it, you can have it cheap! I don’t want to turn away anyone that might like this painting, but personally, I really don’t like it.

Notre Dame - 14" x 11" - Acrylic, watercolor pencil and gesso on Masonite - $300
This one ended up a little dark. I don’t know what is going on. I guess it has been a little while since I have painted and it is taking a little time to get up and running again. It is weird that I can do an abstract like the last one and then end up stuck again.

I am really trying to get the hang of this cover up technique. I see art that uses it and I really like the idea that there is a hint of something that was lost and covered up in a painting. “What can it be?” “Why was it covered?” These are some of the questions that are asked when things are covered up as you paint.
It adds depth – not just physical depth, but an emotional depth to a piece.
I can talk about it, but it is difficult to cover something up that I have put into the painting. It isn’t like you cover up a mistake. It is something good, but it is just less essential to the art you are working on right now.
The following three paintings are designed to help me learn how to cover things up. I think I was successively more successful.
