I want to state what my goals are and see if I can achieve them.
I hope now, at this early stage, that I stick with it and work hard to achieve my goal, which is to become a great artist and find myself and my style. Creating a bunch of paintings that will just sit around and gather dust isn’t the point. The point is that by working hard these next couple of months, I will be able to come to understand myself as an artist and create work that communicates with people.
Now that I think about it, these are my goals for this project, not in any particular order:
1) Create a body of work
2) Make a living as an artist
3) Become a better artist
4) Become more comfortable with my decisions as an artist
5) Develop my intuition as an artist
6) Learn more about myself
7) Develop/discover a style that is my own
8 ) Learn just what it is I like about my favorite artwork
9) Develop the ability to get into the “zone” at will
10) Develop a successful artist’s mindset
So, let’s see if I can achieve this in the next few months.
I just wrote my aunt who left a comment on this blog. I thought I came up with some pretty good stuff, so I would like to share it here:
Contemporary art is all about what the artist is trying to say. Not what the piece looks like.
I believe that the viewer completes the artwork. I do my best to create something either with a message or something that is thought provoking. Then, when the viewer comes, they bring their background and baggage and they get a certain meaning out of the art. Now it is complete. And each person that looks and understands something or feels something, creates a new piece of art.
Right now, I am trying to whittle down 13 years of neglect to find the artist I was at school 13 years ago.
I worked on another “Dwellings” piece today. I like this one. The houses go up a hill and there are clouds and sky at the top of the picture.
Let’s see… anything different about this one? No. Not really, except that I am getting more comfortable in my skin.
